Jacob Markstrom Speaks Out After His Goaltending Masterclass Leads Devils to 3-2 Victory Over Kraken

In a standout performance, goaltender Jacob Markstrom played a pivotal role in the New Jersey Devils’ 3-2 victory over the Seattle Kraken on January 6, 2025. Facing 23 shots, Markstrom made 21 saves, including several critical stops that kept the Devils ahead.

One of his most remarkable saves occurred late in the first period. With the game tied at 1-1, Kraken forward Oliver Bjorkstrand received a pass during a 3-on-2 rush and unleashed a snap shot aimed at the top corner. Markstrom, fully extended, managed to deflect the puck with his glove, preserving the tie.

Another highlight came in the third period when, with the Devils leading 3-2, Kraken forward Eeli Tolvanen appeared poised to score. Tolvanen was set up for a tap-in goal, but Markstrom lunged with his glove, making a spectacular save that kept the Devils ahead.

After the game, Markstrom expressed relief at ending the team’s four-game losing streak, stating, “It’s not a fun feeling when you lose a few in a row and I don’t want to revisit that feeling and this is the last game of the road trip and we needed a win.”

The Devils’ victory was also marked by goals from Dawson Mercer, Paul Cotter, and Ondrej Palat. Palat’s game-winning goal came early in the third period, just 37 seconds after the Kraken had tied the game.

Markstrom’s exceptional goaltending was instrumental in the Devils’ win, showcasing his skill and resilience under pressure.
