Imane Khelif’s Mother Hits Back At Controversial Boxer’s Critics With Clear Message.

Imane Khelif’s Mother Defends Controversial Boxer Amid Gender Speculation

Algerian boxer Imane Khelif made headlines during the Paris Olympic Games, not only for her gold medal victory but also for the controversy surrounding her gender. After unsubstantiated claims and intense scrutiny, Khelif’s mother, Nasria, has fiercely defended her daughter, making it clear that Imane is female.

Khelif, who previously reached the quarter-finals at the Tokyo Olympics, faced accusations related to failing a gender test during an International Boxing Association (IBA) event. Despite the IBA’s disputed decisions, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirmed Khelif’s eligibility to compete in Paris, where she triumphed in the 66kg weight class.

Amid the controversy, Khelif has taken legal action against cyber harassment, expressing her pain over the treatment she received online. Her parents have also spoken out, with her father, Amar, firmly stating, “My child is a girl. Imane is a girl who has loved sport since she was six years old.” He shared official documents proving her gender, dismissing the unfounded rumors.

The IOC and the Paris 2024 Boxing Unit issued a joint statement criticizing the IBA’s arbitrary actions, emphasizing that Khelif was unfairly targeted without due process. IOC President Thomas Bach supported Khelif, stating, “We have two boxers who are born as women, raised as women, and have competed for many years as women.”

Imane Khelif’s story is a testament to resilience and determination in the face of unjust scrutiny. As she continues to shine in the boxing ring, her journey serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of standing up against baseless accusations and supporting athletes’ rights.
