Golden Knights Forward Named One Of Eight NHL Veterans Who Should Turn Their One-Year Deals Into A Contract Extension
Vegas Golden Knights forward Victor Olofsson was named one of eight NHL veterans who should turn their one-year deal into a contract extension by The Hockey News’ Adam Proteau.
Oloffson played the first six years of his career with the Buffalo Sabres after they selected him in the seventh round (181st overall) in the 2014 NHL draft. Struggling with injuries and poor play during the 2023-24 season, both he and the Sabres felt the right move was to part ways and allow Olofsson a fresh start elsewhere.
That elsewhere was with his former teammate Jack Eichel on the Golden Knights. His success with the team began quickly, with him potting two goals in his Golden Knights debut. He unfortunately suffered a long-term injury in the third game of the season but returned to his top form when healed.
Through 18 games, the 29-year-old has scored eight goals and 13 points, with five of his goals coming on the power play. He’s brought a shooter’s mentality to the franchise, which was one they were lacking.
“After a down season last year with Buffalo where he had seven goals and 15 points in 51 games – Olofsson has rejuvenated his career with the Golden Knights,” said Proteau. “He has eight goals and 13 points in 17 games despite dealing with an injury. He’s currently playing on a one-year, $1,075-million contract, and while Vegas doesn’t have massive amounts of money to throw at him, he’s proving to be a secondary scorer any team would want.”
Olofsson has been worth every penny, and without many top prospects looking to enter the Golden Knights lineup any time soon, Olofsson could earn himself an extension before the offseason if he continues his strong play.
