The blockbuster Oleksandr Usyk vs Tyson Fury rematch card has taken a big hit with just one week to go.
The two heavyweight kings do battle for the second time this month after Usyk won a split decision back in May to become the division’s first undisputed champion in over two decades.
The main event sells itself, but the promotion had boasted an entertaining undercard featuring up and coming heavyweights Johnny Fisher and Moses Itauma as well as a highly-anticipated super-bantamweight bout between Dennis McCann and Peter McGrail.
That all-British grudge match will no longer take place as Queensberry Promotions has now announced McCann has failed a Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency test.
“The Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) has today informed all relevant parties that Dennis McCann has returned an adverse finding following an anti-doping test conducted in advance of his upcoming bout.
Mr. McCann’s scheduled fight next Saturday will no longer take place, as the relevant parties investigate the matter further. No further comment on this will be made at this time.”
Dennis ‘The Menace’ McCann holds the European, Commonwealth and British super-bantamweight titles. He is undefeated in 17, with one draw against Ionut Baluta which he avenged last time out – the most impressive victory of his career.
The Usyk-Fury card also recently suffered as Israil Madrimov, who has signed to fight in February against Vergil Ortiz Jr, pulled out of his bout against Serhii Bohachuk due to ill health. Ishmael Davis will step in to face Bohachuk.
News is expected as to what McCann’s future holds as an investigation gets underway.
