During an interview with Kay Adams, Collinsworth was questioned about this alleged favoritism.
“There are NFL fans, I don’t know if you know this, Cris, that think that you really like Patrick Mahomes,” Adams said.
“And they’re gonna hear what you’re saying about the O-line and say you’re giving him outs.”
Collinsworth didn’t deny his admiration for Patrick Mahomes after he was pressed about it by Adams.
“Honestly, I don’t care if anyone thinks I like Patrick Mahomes, because I do. I do like the guy,” he said.
“He’s been one of the most phenomenal players we’ve seen in the league for a long, long time.”
Collinsworth has never called a Super Bowl that includes Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
He has acknowledged his love of Mahomes on NFL broadcasts though, referencing it in 2023.
“There’ll be people excited I’m not gonna mention Patrick Mahomes,” he said.
“I’ve been reading my Twitter.”
Kay Adams breaks down with emotion on live TV after show guest’s impression of NBC broadcast icon Cris Collinsworth
Earlier in the same season, Collinsworth kicked off a broadcast by shouting out Mahomes’ talent.
“America is about to find out how good he really is,” he said.
Mahomes had already won two MVPs by that point.
Even after defending himself with Adams, Collinsworth continued his Mahomes favoritism.
He claimed that Kansas City was getting beat so bad in the Super Bowl that Mahomes “probably couldn’t have been great enough for him to have won this game.”

Collinsworth felt that the Philadelphia Eagles were so much better that Mahomes couldn’t carry the Chiefs to a win by himself.
For some reason he forgot to mention the three turnovers that Mahomes caused over the course of the game.
Those turnovers gave the Eagles an immense amount of momentum to win the game.
Fans are overwhelmingly against Collinsworth’s Mahomes favoritism, but they might feel better now that he has at least acknowledged it.
