Stalag 17 (1953)
Awar comedy-drama directed by Billy Wilder, set in a German POW (Prisoner of War) camp during World War II. The story follows a group of American soldiers who are imprisoned in Stalag 17, a German POW camp. Suspicion arises among the prisoners when they realize there is a traitor in their midst, someone who is providing information to the Germans, leading to the capture and punishment of other prisoners. Sefton (William Holden), a cynical and self-serving soldier, becomes the prime suspect, but he manages to outwit the other prisoners and the camp’s Nazi officers. As Sefton uncovers the true identity of the informant, he uses his intelligence and trickery to expose the traitor, gaining the trust and respect of his fellow prisoners.
The film blends suspense, humor, and drama, with strong performances, particularly from Holden, whose portrayal of Sefton earned him an Academy Award nomination.
