Formula One star Sergio Perez’s father is found unconscious in his bathroom after a “heart incident sparked by his son’s brutal crash” at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix

Sergio Perez’s father, Antonio Perez Garibay, is in stable condition following a serious health scare triggered by the high-speed crash involving his son at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

During the race’s final laps, Perez and Carlos Sainz collided in a dramatic crash as they battled for third place. Both drivers fortunately emerged from the incident unhurt, but the shock of the crash had severe repercussions for Perez’s father.

Reports from Mexican publication Medio Tiempo reveal that Antonio Perez Garibay experienced a pre-infarction, a condition often a precursor to a heart attack. The distressing incident occurred after the crash, leading Perez Garibay to faint and suffer significant chest pain.

In an official statement, Perez Garibay’s press office confirmed the medical emergency. “Perez Garibay was found unconscious in the bathroom of his Mexico City home, where paramedics provided immediate medical attention. He was swiftly transported to a hospital in the capital, where he remains under observation and is reported to be in stable condition,” the statement read.

The statement continued, “We appreciate the outpouring of support and affection during this time.”

Scuderia Perez, the racing organization associated with the family, also provided an update, noting that the 65-year-old remains in intensive care, with medical specialists closely monitoring his heart and other vital organs. “Mr. Perez Garibay is stable but continues to receive constant medical review,” they added.

As Antonio Perez Garibay recovers, Sergio Perez is now focusing on the upcoming Singapore Grand Prix. The crash in Baku meant Perez’s wait for a podium finish since the Chinese GP continues, and he has slipped to eighth in the driver’s standings with 143 points.

Red Bull Racing is also facing challenges, having fallen behind McLaren in the constructors’ standings after Oscar Piastri’s victory and Lando Norris’s fourth-place finish in Baku. The team will need Perez to rebound strongly as they aim to close the 20-point gap with seven races remaining.
