The Formula 1 community is abuzz as onboard footage of Max Verstappen’s controversial collision with Lewis Hamilton during the Hungarian Grand Prix has surfaced online. This incident has reignited discussions among F1 fans and analysts alike.
In a dramatic race last weekend in Hungary, Oscar Piastri secured his maiden Grand Prix victory, leading a McLaren one-two finish with Lando Norris coming in second. However, much of the post-race conversation has focused on the clash between old rivals Verstappen and Hamilton, who were fiercely battling for third place.
The collision resulted in Hamilton eventually claiming third place, while Verstappen fell back to fifth. The aftermath of their exchange was closely observed by fans and analysts, sparking a range of opinions.
The newly emerged clip of Verstappen’s onboard footage has added fuel to the debate. F1 enthusiasts have taken to social media to share their insights and dissect the incident.
One user on X (formerly known as Twitter) wrote: “When you see it at this speed, VER additional steering had nothing to do with escaping HAM – there was no evasive manoeuvre. It was overspeed, he then tried to turn for the corner & locked up.”
Another tweeted: “Braking at the same point at the inside is late compared to braking at that point on the outside. He’s got a much tighter line and needs to be slower to make the corner.”
A third added: “Right but the stewards almost used this reasoning in support of max not overshooting the corner. Like they completely forgot that he was going 20-25mph faster than the non DRS entry lol.”
A fourth said: “You can’t break at the same point if you’re going too fast and not on the racing line. Doesn’t really excuse it at all imo.”
Another commenter noted: “Max was too busy raging to be able to drive the car properly. He divebombed and was never going to be making the corner, Lewis taking his usual line into that turn wasn’t a factor in the contact.”
As the F1 season progresses, this incident will likely remain a hot topic among fans and analysts, adding another chapter to the intense rivalry between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton.
