Famed boxer Floyd Mayweather is facing legal trouble after a lawsuit was filed against him in connection with an alleged assault involving one of his security guards. The lawsuit, which comes two years after the incident, accuses a member of the Mayweather Money Team, the boxer’s entourage, of battery against a patron named Eduardo Martinez.
The incident reportedly occurred in 2022 at the Yard House restaurant, near the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, where Mayweather and his entourage were dining. According to the lawsuit, the presence of the celebrity boxer caused a commotion and a crowd began to gather around the restaurant. Martinez, who was using his cellphone to record the scene, caught the attention of Mayweather and his team.
The suit claims that Mayweather’s security “negligently, carelessly, intentionally, maliciously and/or physically touched, struck and/or hit [the victim],” causing Martinez to fall to the ground. The patron claims he was “placed in great fear for his life, health, and safety” during the encounter and alleges that the restaurant staff did nothing to intervene.
Initial reports indicate that the situation escalated when the security guard allegedly attempted to seize Martinez’s cellphone, leading to further harm. The police arrived 30 minutes later but did not immediately make any arrests. Their investigation reportedly found inconsistencies between Martinez’s account and witness statements.
Martinez is seeking more than $3 million in damages from Mayweather, broken down as $1.5 million in general damages, $500,000 for future medical expenses, $40,000 for past medical expenses, $300,000 for loss of future earnings, and $1 million in punitive damages.
This is not the first time that Mayweather has faced such allegations. According to TMZ, a 32-year-old man previously filed a police report claiming that Mayweather assaulted him after being asked for a photo. Mayweather denied the accusation, and no charges were filed. The latest lawsuit adds another chapter to the boxer’s storied career, now under scrutiny for his team’s alleged misconduct.
