F1 NEWS TODAY🛑 Mexico City GP Issue ‘Concerned’ Warning After Perez F1 Exit

F1 is scheduled to be without a Mexican driver on the grid for the first time since the race returned in 2015.

The boss of the Mexico City Grand Prix promoter has conceded the concern about Sergio Perez’s absence from the 2025 race.

Following a dismal season at Red Bull in 2024, Perez was dropped, and with no seats available elsewhere on the grid, the six-time grand prix winner will be absent, as things stand, for the race in October at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

There are hopes that Perez could yet return in 2026, potentially with the new Cadillac team, with the ex-F1 racer set to take six months to consider his future, and if he wants a return to F1.

Since grand prix racing returned to Mexico in 2015, Perez has been a fixture on the grid, with race bosses conceding their “concern” about his absence.

“As organisers, we are very concerned about Sergio Perez’s absence from the Formula 1 grid,” Alejandro Soberon, CEO of the company behind the promoter for the Mexico City GP.

“However, we are trying to find a way to extend our contract with the championship.

“We are now able to provide the public with a much better show than we did five years ago, and we believe that the competition between the drivers and the bright colours of our show are sufficient aspects to keep spectators interested.

“Everything depends on marketing and, although it is always better to have an idol of the local public, in the event that there is not one we are convinced that the fans will still find a hero to support.”
