Arnold’s confession was caught on camera as he spoke to two of his teammates after successfully converting the crucial penalty.

“I didn’t want to take any shot, but ‘he’ made me do it,” Arnold admitted.

In this shootout, four other England players scored successfully: Cole Palmer, Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, and Ivan Toney.

At Euro 2024, Gareth Southgate entrusted Arnold with the central midfield position in the first two group stage matches. However, Arnold’s performance was underwhelming, and he faced criticism from fans and experts, which likely affected his mindset.

Despite this, the versatile player emphasized that he only cared about the team’s success when interviewed by the BBC after the match against Switzerland. “It’s unbelievable,” he exclaimed. “These are the goals we set for ourselves.”

With these words, Alexander-Arnold encapsulated the determination and resilience of the England squad as they continue their journey in Euro 2024.
