England faces a double injury scare as Declan Rice and Kieran Trippier miss training ahead of their Euro 2024 round of 16 match against Slovakia. 😟🇬🇧
The England team is sweating over the fitness of Declan Rice and Kieran Trippier. According to The Sun reporters, these two stars were absent from training with the rest of the squad before their match against Slovakia in the round of 16.
Rice and Trippier also missed training and followed their own individual programs. The Arsenal midfielder has been a regular for England since being called up during his days at West Ham.
Coach Gareth Southgate has struggled to find a partner for Rice in midfield and has yet to come up with a replacement if Rice is unfit to play. Southgate may now rely on Adam Wharton or Kobbie Mainoo to replace Rice in the defensive midfield position. In the draw against Slovenia, the 53-year-old manager paired Rice with Conor Gallagher in midfield.
Meanwhile, Trippier’s potential injury ahead of the Slovakia match could be alleviated by Luke Shaw. The Manchester United defender has declared himself ready to play after missing the entire group stage.
Trippier filled in at left-back during Shaw’s absence but was criticized for his poor performances at Euro 2024. Shaw is the only natural left-back in the England squad as Southgate chose not to call up other players for that position.
In the latest update, Phil Foden has returned to Germany to rejoin the England squad after going home for the birth of his third child. The 24-year-old and his teammates are actively preparing for the match against Slovakia in the round of 16 of Euro 2024.
England will face Slovakia in the round of 16 match at 11:00 PM on June 30th (Vietnam time). If they overcome Slovakia, Southgate’s men will meet either Italy or Switzerland in the quarter-finals. Nevertheless, they have managed to avoid the tougher side of the draw, which includes France, Belgium, Germany, Portugal, and Spain, until the final.
