Emotional Daniel Ricciardo Reflects on Potential Last Race in Formula One
An emotional Daniel Ricciardo expressed his desire to “savour the moment” following what could be his final race in Formula One during the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday. The 35-year-old Australian has been under intense scrutiny as speculation mounts regarding his future, with reports suggesting that Red Bull plans to replace him with rookie Liam Lawson for the upcoming US Grand Prix on October 20.
While neither Ricciardo nor Red Bull has officially confirmed these rumors, the veteran driver appeared visibly upset in an interview with F1’s in-house broadcaster after finishing the race in 18th place, despite setting the fastest lap of the Grand Prix.
“A lot of emotions,” Ricciardo said, reflecting on the race and the uncertainty of his future. “I’m aware it could be it. I think it’s just exhaustion after the race, so I don’t know, there’s just a flood of many emotions and feelings.”
His voice trembled as he concluded the interview, taking a moment to gather himself while reminiscing about his time in the sport. “The cockpit is something that… um… I got very used to for many years and just wanted to savour the moment,” he shared.
In a poignant farewell gesture, Ricciardo contributed to his close friend and world champion Max Verstappen’s championship efforts by setting the fastest lap at the Marina Bay street circuit, earning an important bonus point that denied championship rival Lando Norris from gaining ground.

Following the race, Verstappen expressed his gratitude to Ricciardo, simply saying, “Thank you, Daniel,” after being informed of Ricciardo’s strategic lap. Verstappen ultimately finished second, while McLaren’s Norris claimed victory, and fellow Australian Oscar Piastri secured third place after his recent win in Baku.
