Ready to Spend One Million USD to Gift Voters Every Day, Musk Shows He’s Not Holding Back in Efforts to Help Trump Win and Enhance His Own Political Standing
Billionaire Elon Musk was welcomed in Pennsylvania as a hero, demonstrating the financial clout of the world’s richest man.
No longer delivering typical campaign speeches like in the previous three days of campaigning in this battleground state, Musk presented a one million USD check to a random attendee at an event in Harrisburg on the evening of October 19.
The American tycoon promised to give one million USD each day to those in battleground states who sign a petition supporting free speech and the right to bear arms as outlined in the U.S. Constitution, part of a project by America PAC, a super political action committee (PAC) supporting former President Donald Trump.
Musk’s goal is to attract nearly a million voters in battleground states to help increase Trump’s chances of winning. This “money-throwing” strategy has been praised by some supporters as a way to engage a significant number of interested voters without needing to buy expensive television ads in battleground states.
This initiative of rewarding one million USD daily can be seen as another sign that the American billionaire is very serious and determined to help Trump defeat Democratic challenger Kamala Harris. Musk has donated at least 75 million USD to America PAC for campaigning activities supporting the former president.
Simultaneously, observers suggest that Musk seems to be investing heavily in his own political ambitions.
A few weeks after Musk publicly endorsed Trump in July, the former president stated that if elected, he would appoint the billionaire to his new administration. Trump promised to make Musk the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
“He’s a tremendous businessman and very good at cutting costs,” Trump said in an interview with Fox News earlier this month, describing Musk as “the Minister of Cost Cutting.”
Musk has also mentioned this potential role in recent speeches. “I intend to do a lot to improve government performance,” he told a crowd of about 1,200 people at an event in suburban Philadelphia on the evening of October 18.
At the event in Pittsburgh on October 20, Musk claimed it would be an easy task if not hindered by those looking to protect their interests. “They won’t be happy about it, but the American people will be happy because tax dollars will be spent much more efficiently,” he said.
Musk initially drew attention with comments about cutting regulations, which he argued have “suffocated” companies. However, what excites voters more is his vision for government spending cuts that he plans to implement.
Around 1,500 attendees at Musk’s event in Harrisburg were fundamentally interested in what he would do at DOGE if Trump were re-elected. They believe that Musk’s experience in overcoming bureaucracy to successfully launch rockets into space and drastically reducing staff after acquiring Twitter makes him a suitable candidate for the role at DOGE.
“He’s done some controversial things at Twitter, like laying off 80% of the staff. I hope to see similar actions in the new government. I want to learn about his vision,” said Brian Hunt, a 38-year-old nuclear engineer.
Others shared similar hopes. “It’s like you’re going in with an ax and chopping away almost half of unnecessary positions in government. That would be great,” said Luke Shaffner, a 39-year-old attendee from Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
Musk has not specified how he would cut costs, but he hinted that officials could be evaluated based on their performance and could be fired if they waste money.
“If people know they could be fired for wasting taxpayers’ money, the situation would immediately improve,” he said on October 17.
At another event on October 18, Musk added that he wants some government employees to resign within two years. “This isn’t about being cruel or making people unable to pay their mortgages. It’s just that we have too many people in government,” he stated.
By supporting Trump and openly expressing his stance on various policy issues, Musk is increasingly diving into politics, according to observers. Tim Higgins, an analyst for the WSJ, noted that while Musk is actively campaigning for Trump, he also behaves like a candidate when participating in events with voters.
Musk’s actions are helping him attract a loyal base of supporters, especially within the Republican Party, where his approval rating stands at 62%. Analysts suggest that his ability to generate media buzz and shape public opinion on social platforms like X could provide value to Trump’s campaign.
The political activities of billionaire Elon Musk have created a complex relationship between money, power, and influence in American politics. His fervent support for former President Trump and substantial financial contributions have positioned him at the forefront of contemporary political media, but it also invites considerable controversy, according to analysts.
“If Trump loses, I’m finished,” Elon Musk said about his gamble in the upcoming U.S. presidential election during an interview on Fox News on October 7.
