Anthony Joshua’s boxing career could come to a close by the end of 2026, or even sooner, according to promoter Eddie Hearn.

Hearn suggested that Joshua, aged 34, is aiming to solidify his legacy as a three-time heavyweight world champion. Joshua’s upcoming fight is set for September 21 at Wembley Stadium, where he could potentially challenge for Oleksandr Usyk’s IBF title if it becomes available before his rematch with Tyson Fury.

Hearn emphasized that Joshua is driven by the pursuit of greatness and legacy before retiring from his professional career, which commenced in 2013.

Regarding the duration of Joshua’s remaining time in the sport, Hearn stated, “I think maybe the end of 2026. If he wins in September and beats Fury or Usyk to become undisputed then what else do you do? It could even be next year, who knows? He’ll want to continue while he’s performing and right now he’s the best ever. He wants legacy, greatness. If you asked him, he’d also want to have good performances.”

Daniel Dubois, following his recent victory over Filip Hrgovic, is considered the leading candidate to face Joshua should the IBF belt become available. Hearn acknowledged Dubois as a formidable opponent, describing the potential match-up as “dangerous.”

“The preference is for Joshua to fight for the world heavyweight title. If the IBF title comes on the line then Dubois becomes the frontrunner,” Hearn stated. “He’s a dangerous fighter. He’s always been a good strong fighter and now he’s maturing as a man and he’s got massive confidence.”

Hearn expressed confidence in Joshua’s ability to reclaim his belts, asserting that Joshua is currently in the best physical and mental condition of his career.

“For sure. He’s in the best physical and mental condition of his career so far and at the moment he beats everyone in the sport,” Hearn remarked.
