The pilot killed in a plane crash near Buffalo Bills lineman Dion Dawkins’ house on Thursday has been identified as Paul S. Marsh of Lansing, Michigan, according to the East Aurora Police Department.

The single-engine 1979 Beechcraft A36 was en route from Lansing, Michigan, to White Plains when it crashed in a wooded area between two homes on Stewart Court in the Town of Aurora around 11:30 a.m.

Authorities reported that Buffalo Niagara International Airport issued an alert at 11:16 a.m. for a single-engine plane experiencing mechanical issues. Shortly after, at 11:22 a.m., the East Aurora Fire Control Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting the crash.

Dawkins, who was excused from practice for personal reasons earlier in the day, addressed the incident upon his return. “I still wonder why things happen in life,” he said. “I just hope the pilot’s family is OK … somebody lost their life today … and I’m glad that my family is perfectly fine.”

The crash remains under investigation.
