Deontay Wilder considers retiring from boxing if he loses to Zhilei Zhang, according to his latest update

### Deontay Wilder Faces Career-Defining Moment Against Zhilei Zhang

Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder (43-3-1) is set to return to the ring this weekend against Zhilei “Big Bang” Zhang (26-2-1) at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Despite initially being on the undercard of the Dmitri Bivol and Malik Zinad fight, Wilder vs. Zhang has become the marquee bout following Artur Beterbiev’s withdrawal.

In an interview with Seconds Out, former WBC world champion Wilder expressed that the outcome of his fight against Zhang could be a pivotal moment in his career. “I’ve had a successful career and it’s a kill or be killed moment. I don’t think the heavyweight division is exciting without Deontay Wilder in it, but come Saturday night we will see,” said the 38-year-old. “Will I prevail? Will I succeed? Who knows. This could be the final goodbye, the farewell of Deontay Wilder if I lose.”

Wilder, known for his ferocious fighting style, indicated that he is ready to bring back the savagery that earned him his fearsome reputation. “The savagery of The Bronze Bomber is back. I was at too much peace, and war and peace don’t mix. The only time war and peace mix is when the war is over and victory has been claimed,” he declared.

A victory against Zhang would not only reinvigorate Wilder’s career but also set up a potential high-stakes bout against British former unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. Joshua, who recently defeated Francis Ngannou by knockout, is expected to face the winner of Filip Hrgovic and Daniel Dubois in September. However, a win for Wilder could make him a wild card in these plans, possibly leading to one of the most anticipated matchups in recent heavyweight history.US' Deontay Wilder reacts during a weigh-in event, a day before his match with New Zealand's Joseph Parker, in Riyadh on December 22, 2023. Wilder has contemplated retirement multiple times in the past, particularly after his losses to Tyson Fury in 2020 and 2021, and more recently after his defeat by New Zealand’s Joseph Parker in December 2023. However, the allure of reclaiming his place in the heavyweight division and securing his legacy continues to draw him back to the ring.

The fight against Zhang represents a crossroads for Wilder. A loss could spell the end of his illustrious career, while a win would reaffirm his status as a top contender in the heavyweight division. Boxing fans around the world will be watching closely to see if the Bronze Bomber can rise to the occasion once again.
