Denny Hamlin Has A Simple Statement Concerning His Future At Joe Gibbs Racing Amid Zero Championships In 20 Years

Denny Hamlin has recently addressed questions about his future with Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR), the team he has been with for two decades. In an interview with The Athletic, Hamlin, who is still chasing his first NASCAR Cup Series championship in his 21st season, gave a brief but telling update about his contract situation. When asked if he would continue with JGR, the 44-year-old responded, “Working on it. Should be something done somewhat soon.”

Hamlin began his journey with Joe Gibbs Racing in 2004 as a development driver, competing in the Truck and Xfinity (then Busch) Series before moving up to the Cup Series full-time in 2006. Despite his long tenure and impressive stats—56 wins, 43 poles, and 364 top-10 finishes in 698 Cup Series races—he has yet to secure a championship title.

As his current contract nears its end, speculation about his next move has been relatively quiet, with many expecting him to re-sign with JGR. Hamlin currently races alongside Christopher Bell, Ty Gibbs, and Chase Briscoe, all of whom are newer to the team compared to Hamlin’s 20-year legacy.

This season, Hamlin has shown strong form, making him a serious contender for the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series championship. He has already claimed two consecutive race victories, logged five top-five finishes, and six top-10s, leading a total of 371 laps. He currently sits sixth in the driver standings with 390 points. Notable performances include runner-up finishes at Phoenix and Bristol, though he faced setbacks at Charlotte due to fuel issues.

With wins at Martinsville and Darlington, Hamlin’s average starting position is 13.154, and his average finish is 15.231. Despite not yet capturing a championship, his consistency and performance keep him firmly in the hunt for the title as the season progresses.
