CONFIRMED🛑 FIA BAN Max Verstappen for next Canadian GP over controversial comments and his SWEARING caused outrage on F1 radio after being handed a 10-second penalty for aggressive driving following a collision with George Russell at the 2025 Spanish GP👇

In a dramatic escalation of Formula 1’s disciplinary actions, the FIA has banned Max Verstappen from the 2025 Canadian Grand Prix, scheduled for June 13-15, following a series of controversial incidents at the Spanish Grand Prix on June 1, 2025. The decision, announced on June 4, 2025, stems from Verstappen’s aggressive driving, which resulted in a collision with Mercedes’ George Russell, and his subsequent profane outburst on F1 team radio, which sparked widespread outrage. The ban marks a significant blow to the four-time world champion’s 2025 title campaign, as he already trails championship leader Oscar Piastri by 49 points after a 10-second penalty dropped him to 10th in Spain.

The Spanish Grand Prix saw Verstappen embroiled in a heated late-race battle following a Safety Car restart triggered by Kimi Antonelli’s Mercedes failure. Running on less competitive hard tires, Verstappen clashed with Russell at Turn 5 after Red Bull instructed him to yield fourth place due to an earlier incident where he went off-track at Turn 1. The stewards deemed Verstappen wholly responsible for the collision, noting he “suddenly accelerated” after appearing to let Russell pass, earning a 10-second penalty and three penalty points on his FIA Super Licence, bringing his 12-month total to 11—one shy of an automatic race ban. However, it was Verstappen’s expletive-laden radio rant, criticizing the stewards and Russell, that pushed the FIA to impose the unprecedented ban, citing a breach of Article 12.2.1.k of the International Sporting Code for conduct detrimental to the sport’s image.

The FIA’s statement emphasized that Verstappen’s “inappropriate language and behavior” on team radio, broadcast globally, set a poor example for fans and young drivers, particularly after his aggressive maneuver was deemed intentional by some observers, including 2016 champion Nico Rosberg, who called for disqualification. George Russell, speaking to Sky Sports F1, described the move as “deliberate” and “totally unnecessary,” arguing it endangered drivers and tarnished F1’s reputation. Posts on X amplified the controversy, with fans divided—some labeling Verstappen a “reckless bully,” while others defended his passion, claiming the FIA’s response was overly punitive.

Verstappen’s ban forces Red Bull to find a replacement driver for Montreal, with potential candidates including Racing Bulls drivers Liam Lawson or Isack Hadjar. The penalty compounds a challenging season for Verstappen, whose Red Bull has struggled against McLaren’s dominant car. His 10th-place finish in Spain, coupled with the ban, leaves his title hopes hanging by a thread. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner expressed frustration but vowed to address the issue internally, while Mercedes’ Toto Wolff remarked, “Max is a great driver, but these moments show he needs to recognize his mistakes.” Verstappen later issued a veiled apology on Instagram, admitting the Russell collision “was not right and shouldn’t have happened,” but remained defiant about F1’s racing guidelines, calling them “not very natural.”

The FIA’s crackdown reflects a broader push to clean up driver conduct, following recent controversies over radio communication and on-track aggression. With two penalty points set to expire after the Austrian Grand Prix on June 30, Verstappen must tread carefully to avoid further sanctions. The ban has ignited debate about fairness and consistency in F1 stewarding, with some fans on X arguing the punishment fits the crime, while others see it as a targeted move against the outspoken Dutchman. As the paddock heads to Montreal, all eyes will be on Red Bull’s response and whether Verstappen can rebound from this career-defining setback.
