Coach Deschamps Explains Call-Up of Kante for Euro 2024

Head coach Didier Deschamps has revealed that N’Golo Kante’s impressive defensive capabilities and outstanding fitness this season are the reasons for his inclusion in the French squad for Euro 2024.

In the early hours of May 17, Coach Didier Deschamps announced the French squad for Euro 2024. The surprise inclusion in this list was midfielder N’Golo Kante, who has been absent from the national team for two years and is currently not playing in Europe.

Explaining his decision to recall Kante, Coach Deschamps told RMC Sport, “N’Golo Kante has had a complete season, not in Europe but it has helped him regain his form and fitness. With Kante’s experience, the French team will perform better.”

“Kante is seen as an angel in the French team; everyone loves him. However, I cannot guarantee a starting spot for him or anyone else. All seven of my midfielders deserve a place in the starting lineup,” Coach Didier Deschamps added.

Since moving from Europe to the Saudi Pro League, Kante has found stable form. The 33-year-old midfielder has made 28 appearances in Saudi Arabia’s top league, becoming an indispensable figure there.

Despite being recalled, Kante will have to compete for a starting position in the French team’s midfield, which currently features stars like Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga, who are shining at Real Madrid.

Additionally, Coach Deschamps may prioritize familiar faces from recent times, such as Adrien Rabiot (Juventus), Youssouf Fofana (Monaco), and Warren Zaire-Emery (Paris Saint-Germain).
