BREAKING -Video: Marc Márquez’s Ducati catches fire, title hopes also go up in flames

Fighting for the MotoGP title this year was never going to be easy for Marc Márquez, but any chance of it happening likely vanished this Sunday at the Indonesian GP.

The Gresini rider started from 12th and was gradually climbing up the ranks. However, when he was in seventh place with 16 laps to go, his Ducati suffered a mechanical failure, leading to a fire, forcing him to retire from the race.

It’s a rare technical issue for Ducati bikes and marked Márquez’s second retirement from a main race this season – his first came in April at the Americas GP due to a crash.

With this outcome in Mandalika, the Spaniard remains fourth in the championship standings. At the time of writing, he would be 78 points behind the championship leader and three points away from third place.
