In response to the FIA’s announcement of an increase in expected aerodynamic performance for

the 2026 cars, Wolff expressed his dissatisfaction. “It’s cowardly and disappointing,” Wolff stated. “We had reached a point where innovation and sustainability could go hand in hand, but now it feels like we’re taking a step backward. This isn’t the future we envisioned for Formula 1.”

The changes come after months of discussions between the teams and the FIA, during which concerns were raised over the initial 2026 technical regulations. These concerns prompted further refinements, ultimately leading to the agreed upon increase in aerodynamic performance.

“The FIA had an opportunity to lead by example, to prioritize the environment while still delivering top-level racing. Instead, they’ve chosen the easier route,” Wolff remarked. “We’re not afraid of competition, but we need to be responsible about the future of the sport.”
