Christopher Bell: The pilot destined to make history at Nascar

All eyes are put in Christopher Bell. Joe Gibbs Racing is one step away from achieving his fourth consecutive victory in the Nascar Cup in Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Trust is at its highest point, and expectations too. With the impulse on his side, Bell and his team No. 20, led by the Chief of Mechanics Adam Stevens, seek to register their name in history. The last time a pilot achieved four victories in the first five races was in 1992, when Bill Elliott got it. Now, the 30 -year -old could follow that path in the “desert diamond.”
Christopher Bell’s admiration by Jimmie Johnson
18 years ago, Jimmie Johnson dominated Nascar by winning four consecutive races towards the end of the 2007 Cup season. Having won a championship the previous year, Chevy pilot No. 48 achieved victories in Martinsville, Atlanta, Texas and Phoenix before lifting Bill France Cup in Homestead-Miami. He closed the season with a total of 10 wins.
Bell, who is close to making history, has received the direct support from Johnson. During a press conference prior to the race, Joe Gibbs Racing revealed: “I still think about the world that I have Jimmie Johnson on my phone. He has sent me messages after each victory this year. I still surprise myself every time I see his name on my screen. It respects him a lot. It is an honor to know that he thinks of me after the race and sends me a message. It is something incredible.”
To put it in perspective: when Jimmie Johnson won his first title in the Cup in 2006, Christopher Bell was only 12 years old. Growing up, he saw Johnson dominate the grill for five seasons in a row. Now, not only competes in the same series, but also receives recognition of a legend. It is not surprising that Bell is so hit.
The versatility of Christopher Bell on the track
Bell’s performance this year has been impressive, matching the number of victories he obtained throughout last season. The most remarkable thing is that it has triumphed in three different types of circuits: Atlanta Motor Speedway (high speed circuit), Circuit of the Americas (road circuit) and Phoenix Raceway (flat track of one mile). Its adaptability is proof of its evolution as a pilot.
2024 was a complicated year for Bell. Despite his consistency, he failed to reach the Championship 4. A controversy in Martinsville, along with his attempt as “Wall Ride”, left him out of the contest. “I feel cheated,” Bell came to say after his disqualification. However, its resurgence in 2025 is no accident.
A key factor has been the decision of Joe Gibbs Racing to raise his prohibition to compete outside the Nascar. Bell, Tricampeón del Chili Bowl, took the opportunity to return to land clues, which has clearly helped him to refine his talent. The story remembers that of Kyle Larson in 2021: after his suspension in 2020, Larson ran more than 90 races in various competitions, getting 12 wins in the World of Outlaws. That same year, he swept the Nascar Cup with 10 wins and a championship. Now, Bell is showing a similar pattern.
“I felt resentment when they didn’t let me run on the ground,” Bell admitted. “Now that I have done it again, I am dominating the grill.” Its off -season preparation has been key in its impressive performance.
The race in Las Vegas: a key step
Despite its solid start, Bell does not relax. He knows that Pennzoil 400 is crucial. It is the first race of the season on an intermediate track of 1.5 miles, a type of circuit where he had problems in 2024. In the playoff race in Las Vegas, he led 155 laps, but finished second behind Joey Logano.
“It is an important race because in intermediate tracks you can win or lose many points,” Bell explained. “But what makes Las Vegas even more important is that the playoff career on this track defines the round of 8. Having a good performance in spring is key to the autumn career.”
After five full seasons at the Nascar Cup Series, Bell feels that his time has come. He has finished 3rd, 4th and 5th in his last three campaigns, but now he aspires to a real challenge for the championship. In a sport where every detail counts, Bell is determined not to leave anything to reach glory.
