London, England – Heavyweight boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk has spoken out about a refereeing scandal and questionable assistance to Tyson Fury in their rematch last August. Usyk claimed he was deprived of a legitimate knockout victory in round 9 and that Fury received help from the referee to avoid losing the fight.
Usyk’s accusations came after a video surfaced showing Fury appearing to stagger and almost fall to the mat in round 9. Referee Victor Lahti intervened and gave Fury 10 seconds to recover, which which Usyk and his team consider to be a wrong decision.
“I knocked him out. He fell to the floor,” Usyk said. “The referee should have counted the numbers and ended the fight. It was a clear knockout victory.”
Usyk also alleged that Fury received help from his crew throughout the fight. He said they provided Fury with doped water and illegally allowed him to rest between rounds.
“A lot of things went wrong in that match,” Usyk said. “They cheated and I didn’t get a fair shot.”
Usyk’s allegations shocked the boxing world. Many people called for an official investigation into the match and for Fury to be stripped of his title.
Fury denies any wrongdoing and says he won fairly.
“I’m a proud heavyweight boxer and I never cheated,” Fury said. “Usyk is just a bitter loser looking for excuses for his failure.”
Usyk has announced he will sue Fury and his team for fraud. He also called for a rematch to prove that he was the better fighter.
This scandal could tarnish boxing’s reputation and lead to major changes in competition rules.
