Denny Hamlin’s NASCAR Future: Spotter Brett Griffin Defends Driver Amid Retirement Questions
Denny Hamlin, despite missing out on a Bristol three-peat thanks to Kyle Larson, is proving that age is just a number in the NASCAR world. The 44-year-old veteran is currently holding second position in the NASCAR standings, right behind William Byron, fueled by two impressive wins this season.

However, the post-race press conference at Bristol took an unexpected turn when Hamlin faced questions about his future in NASCAR. This line of inquiry didn’t sit well with veteran spotter Brett Griffin, who voiced his displeasure at the timing and nature of the questions.
Griffin’s Ire: A Defense of Hamlin’s Competitive Spirit
Hamlin entered the Bristol race with the ambition of securing a victory, but Larson had other plans, leading a significant 411 of the 500 laps. Hamlin, after finishing second, was immediately met with retirement questions, which prompted him to reference racing legends like Kevin Harvick and Mark Martin, asserting that he still has the drive and performance to compete at the highest level. Although he doesn’t foresee racing into his 50s like Martin, Hamlin emphasized his commitment to winning as much as possible while he still can.
Griffin, co-host of “Door Bumper Clear,” didn’t hold back his feelings about the retirement speculation. In a response to FOX reporter Bob Pockrass, Griffin tweeted, “Stop asking when they’ll stop and just enjoy while they are here competing. Whoever asks this never competed in any contact sport.”
Appreciating Hamlin’s Present Contribution
Griffin’s stance is clear: instead of focusing on when Hamlin might retire, fans and media should appreciate his current contributions to the sport. He also directed a pointed remark at the individual who posed the retirement question, implying a lack of understanding of competitive sports.
Brett Griffin, known for his work with drivers such as Clint Bowyer, Jeff Burton, and Elliott Sadler, is recognized for his outspoken nature.
