Anthony Joshua has launched a scathing attack on Tyson Fury, labeling him an ‘idiot’ and expressing satisfaction that Fury is not the undisputed heavyweight champion. Joshua’s comments come in the wake of Fury’s recent defeat to Oleksandr Usyk, which also saw him fall short of becoming the undisputed champion, just as Joshua did last month.

In the lead-up to his fight with Usyk, Fury had disparaged the Ukrainian fighter, referring to him as a ‘rabbit’ and belittling his size, suggesting the bout would be an easy win. These comments did not sit well with Joshua, who has now openly criticized Fury for his disrespectful behavior.

Joshua, who is preparing for his next fight against Daniel Dubois, stated, “I’m glad Fury isn’t the undisputed champion. I just think he’s an idiot. If it was someone else, I might feel differently, but Fury’s attitude has always been disrespectful. He’s always stepping on others to make himself feel better.”

The British heavyweight champion added, “Fury’s behavior towards Usyk, calling him names and mocking him, is not good for the sport. It’s important to respect your opponents. It’s about lifting the sport, not dragging it down.”
Joshua and Fury, once on friendly terms, have seen their relationship deteriorate over recent years, partly due to their inability to agree on a fight. Their rivalry escalated during a FaceTime conversation with Saudi boxing chief HE Turki Alalshikh, which nearly turned contentious as they discussed a potential matchup.
Joshua’s comments come as he prepares for his IBF world title bout against Dubois on September 21. A victory could position him for a potential clash with Fury, who is slated to seek revenge against Usyk on December 21.
Joshua, who has faced Usyk twice and is keen to fight Fury, emphasized that he doesn’t want to wait until he’s 40 to face his rival. He expressed frustration over the delays and stated, “Fury ducks a lot of people. He needs to stop wasting time and come fight me. We tried to make the fight happen before, but it fell apart. Hopefully, we can get it on after this.”
As Joshua looks to solidify his position in the heavyweight division, he remains focused on his upcoming fight with Dubois and the possibility of a future showdown with Fury. Despite their past agreements falling through, Joshua is hopeful that he will get the opportunity to face Fury soon, delivering a fight that boxing fans have long anticipated.
