Fellow two-weight world champions Alex Pereira and Jon Jones are plotting something together after a mysterious FaceTime call.

Pereira, who has won gold at middleweight and light-heavyweight, has a long-standing ‘frenemy’ relationship with Jones, the current heavyweight and legendary ex-light-heavyweight champion. A fight between the pair has been called for by fans, but they appear to be more friend than foe as of late.

The pair even teased UFC boss Dana White in a recent social media post as Jones continues working towards UFC 309. He will face Stipe Miocic in his first title defence after returning from injury that cost them a fight date last year.
Alex Pereira offered to help Jon Jones with UFC 309 camp after first meeting
Back at UFC 306 in Las Vegas last month, Alex Pereira and Jon Jones finally came face-to-face. With fans dreaming of a fight between the pair, they instead posed for pictures and appeared to be quite friendly upon first meeting.
In fact, Pereira even claimed that once he was through with fighting Khalil Rountree Jr at UFC 307 he would be willing to help Jones with preparation for his next fight. The Brazilian is based in Connecticut, and would easily be able to make it to New York where his legendary pal is set to fight.
“We’ve been talking a little bit about training together for a long time, but I think now it’s going to happen,” Pereira told Full Send MMA via a translator. “His fight is going to be in November. Every time you leave a fight, it takes a week or two sometimes to recover from small injuries.
“But I think I’ll have enough time to go over there. Today I saw him more athletic, more fit since he last fought. He looks really good, and I want to grab his experience.
“People talk about us fighting, but people say he’s going to fight one time, once or twice more. I don’t know if I’ll be able to share the cage with him, but at least I want to get the experience of training with him.”
Alex Pereira and Jon Jones link up in new social media post
While Pereira had great intentions of being able to join up with Jones in camp, he took a bit more damage than expected in his bout with Rountree. He was forced to push through adversity and go into the championship rounds before eventually landing the knockout he needed.
And while he has since been seen light sparring, it’s unclear if he would be ready to be a big part of training camp for a massive heavyweight title fight. However, that hasn’t stopped him linking up with Jones virtually.
He shared a screenshot to his Instagram story showing the pair chatting, leaving a cheeky caption about what they may be discussing. “Even Dana White would be curious what we talked about,” he wrote alongside the photo where Jones flexed his muscles for the camera.
Jon Jones once called out Alex Pereira for super-fight
It’s a far cry from Jones’ previous take on Pereira. As recently as May of this year he was theorising about a potential fight between the pair. He now seems keen to retire after facing Miocic, but after initially getting back to training he was eager to fight multiple times.
And he believed, at least at the time, that the bout with Pereira would be the biggest the UFC could possibly make. “Being back in the gym has got me thinking differently,” Jones wrote to kick off a series of tweets.

“That fight after Stipe maybe the next biggest move I could possibly make. This killer has already defeated so many champions, and is already considered a legend to millions around the world. The most massive fight the UFC could make.
“Give Alex a chance to avenge all those great Brazilian champions I’ve defeated. It would be absolutely massive. A guy with a chance to be three division champion and a goat versus the actual goat. Same age, different strengths.
“No one can argue that that would be the biggest fight in MMA history. There’s absolutely no fight that generates a payday like that. Marketing would be insane.”
