And if an unexpected absence became the decisive turn of the Vuelta 2025 for the Visma team | Lease A Bike? In any case, this is what Brian Holm, a seasoned observer of the peloton suggests, after the surprising announcement of the absence of Grischa Niermann, one of the key strategists in the Dutch formation.
At first glance, this package could seem to be a blow for the team. Niermann, present behind the scenes of the big victories of Visma, is known for his rigorous approach and his ability to read the race as few know how to do it. But Holm sees things differently: this absence could well release a new dynamic within the team, a dynamic … much more favorable to Jonas Vingegaard.

“Without Grischa, the strategy will be more fluid, less locked, and above all much more centered on Jonas,” says Holm. According to him, this change offers Vingegaard a larger, even tactical freedom of maneuver that may not have entirely had in previous years.

Since his double Tour de France 2022-2023, Vingegaard has not ceased to prove that he could be more than a simple team leader: a runner capable of dictating his own race. In a team Visma often criticized for its rigid collective approach, this new orientation could constitute a real revolution.
But is this turnaround really the fruit of chance? Holm himself asks the question: “Was it not all of this already planned internally?” Is this a way for the team to develop its operation without offending the existing balances? Questions that allow doubt.
What is certain is that the pressure – and the attention – will be whole on the shoulders of Vingegaard during this Vuelta. With redesigned supervision, adjusted strategy and more assertive leadership, the Danish runner may well write a new chapter in his career. It remains to be seen whether this chapter will end in red.
