Lewis has a history with Tyson, having faced him in 2002 and successfully defended his WBC and IBF heavyweight titles, marking Tyson’s last world title fight. Reflecting on Tyson’s upcoming fight with Paul, originally slated for July but postponed due to Tyson’s health concerns, Lewis expressed confidence in Tyson’s abilities despite their significant age gap of 31 years.
“I hope Tyson leaves a bit of Jake Paul for me,” Lewis quipped to Fox 29 Philadelphia. “Mike Tyson is going to win. He’s not as old as people think. Don’t underestimate him. We’re only one year apart. When you fight someone who isn’t a real fighter, you can do well because there are a hundred things you’ve forgotten that he’s learning.”
Lewis acknowledged age could play a role if the fight drags on, but emphasized Tyson’s formidable punching power. “If Tyson lands one of his trademark combinations, it could be decisive,” he added.
