The Pacific Palisades home, once owned by actor Matthew Perry and where he tragically passed away in 2023, is now under immediate threat as a catastrophic wildfire tears through the celebrity-favored enclave in Los Angeles.
Recently sold for $8.55 million to real estate developer Anita Verma-Lallian, the four-bedroom, five-bathroom home is surrounded by flames, according to footage shared by neighbors on Blue Sail Drive. The blaze, known as the Palisades Fire, is one of three unprecedented wildfires wreaking havoc in Southern California, having already consumed over 15,000 acres of land and destroyed approximately 1,000 structures. Tens of thousands of residents are currently under evacuation orders.
While it remains uncertain if Perry’s former home has been destroyed, a live map by Cal Fire shows the area lies within the wildfire’s “incident perimeter.” Verma-Lallian confirmed on Instagram that her family is safe but did not disclose the condition of the property. She expressed gratitude for the support they’ve received, writing: “Thank you to all who reached out. Our family is safe, and we are awaiting updates. Praying for all those affected by the wildfires.” She also shared footage of homes in Pacific Palisades engulfed in flames as extreme winds exacerbated the destruction.
The property, purchased by Verma-Lallian in October 2024 as a vacation home, was Matthew Perry’s residence from 2020 until his death. Perry had completely renovated the hillside home, located with sweeping ocean views, incorporating darker wooden floors and vibrant furniture. His love for Batman was evident, with artwork of the superhero prominently displayed throughout the house. Tragically, Perry was found dead in the home’s hot tub on October 28, 2023, at the age of 54. His death was ruled accidental, linked to the effects of Ketamine and Buprenorphine.
The Pacific Palisades area has been hit particularly hard by the wildfires, with numerous celebrity homes reduced to ash and rubble. Among them are the $7 million mansion of actors Adam Brody and Leighton Meester, and actress Anna Faris’ $5 million eco-friendly property. Former talk show host Ricki Lake shared her grief over losing her “dream home,” while reality stars Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag also confirmed their home had been lost to the flames.
As firefighters continue battling the inferno, the Palisades Fire, fueled by Santa Ana winds, has become one of the most destructive wildfires in Los Angeles’ history. Two other blazes, in Eaton Canyon and the San Fernando Valley, are also devastating communities in nearby cities. Despite relentless efforts, firefighters have yet to contain any of the fires, which have collectively scorched over 25,000 acres of land. Tragically, five lives have been lost, and the destruction continues to displace thousands.
With Hollywood’s elite among those affected, including Mandy Moore, Ben Affleck, and Mark Hamill, the wildfire serves as a grim reminder of the region’s vulnerability to climate-driven disasters. As the flames rage on, the fate of Perry’s former home remains uncertain.
