Criticism and concerns continue to swirl around the potential bout between 58-year-old Mike Tyson and 27-year-old Jake Paul. The debate has intensified following Tyson’s recent postponement of the fight due to an ulcer flare-up.
Tyson had initially announced a postponement of the fight to allow for recovery and rest, stating, “I want to thank my fans around the world for their support and understanding during this time. Unfortunately, due to my ulcer flare-up, I have been advised by my doctor to lighten my training for a few weeks to rest and recover. My body is in better shape now than it has been since the 1990s, and I will return to full training soon. Jake Paul, this may have bought you some time, but in the end, you will still be knocked out and out of boxing for good. I appreciate everyone’s patience and can’t wait to deliver an unforgettable performance later this year.”
The fight, which has been rescheduled for later this year, is set to take place at AT&T Stadium in Texas on November 15, with streaming available live on Netflix as part of a standard subscription.
Despite these arrangements, former champion and current pundit Shawn Porter has expressed strong doubts about the fight ever happening. On his podcast, Porter said, “I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but we’re not going to ever see Mike Tyson get in the ring with Jake Paul. I don’t make the decisions, but I just don’t see Mike getting in the ring. To me, it didn’t even make sense from a business standpoint.”
Unless Porter’s prediction comes true, fans can expect the Tyson-Paul fight to proceed as planned later this year.
