Oleksandr Usyk Climbs to Top of Ring Magazine’s Pound-for-Pound Rankings After Defeating Tyson Fury

Oleksandr Usyk leapfrogs Terence Crawford as Ring Magazine release pound-for-pound top ten rankings after Tyson Fury win
Oleksandr Usyk now sits above Terence Crawford in the pound-for-pound list after beating Tyson Fury.

The Ukrainian became the first undisputed heavyweight world champion in the four-belt era, outpointing Fury in Saudi Arabia after a scintillating display.

It saw ‘The Cat’ ranked as the leading fighter in the division, while calls for a rise in the pound-for-pound list were made given he previously also reigned as an undisputed king at cruiserweight.

And in the Ring Magazine’s latest pound-for-pound list, Usyk has indeed been placed at the top of the tree above current undisputed welterweight champion Crawford.

Naoya Inoue currently sits in second after he defeated Luis Nery to retain his undisputed super-bantamweight titles, while ‘Bud’ sits in third having last fought in 2023 in a win over Errol Spence.

Crawford has lost his spot largely down to the inactivity, but the American will be looking to cement his name back at the top by beating Israil Madrimov on August 3 and becoming a world champion at super-welterweight.

Canelo Alvarez is in fourth position after his May win over Jaime Munguia, with light-heavyweight rivals Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol ranked fifth and sixth respectively.

One of the pair could have crept up the rankings if their undisputed fight had not been postponed from their June 1 date, but Bivol may still leapfrog Beterbiev if he beats replacement Malik Zinad.

Crawford’s rival Spence sits in seventh despite also having not fought since their showdown, with world champions Gervonta Davis, Jesse Rodriguez and Junto Nakatani rounding out the top ten.

It is no surprise Usyk tops the leaderboard given his remarkable form, which has now seen him beat Fury, Derek Chisora and Anthony Joshua twice.

An immediate rematch with the ‘Gypsy King’ is in store for October, and a win could cement his name as a pound-for-pound great.

He could also be ranked as one of the greatest heavyweights of all-time despite initial fears over his size after switching division.

Boxing Hall of Famer Tom Bradley agrees with Usyk’s status and believes he pips Crawford due to his inactivity.

“I put him at No. 1, absolutely,” Bradley said. “What he was asked to accomplish that night was a fantastic performance.

“You had Tyson Fury with all the advantages – the experience in the heavyweight division, the weight, the reach. And Usyk was able to overcome all of that.

“It was that commitment to his game plan, his commitment to the body, the fact he fights at a high-revving pace. Fury couldn’t keep up.
