New WWE signing Stephanie Vaquer’s alleged dark past comes to light; veteran details brutal falling out with ex-boyfriend

Stephanie Vaquer has made headlines after choosing to sign with WWE. She had received offers from other promotions, including AEW, but ultimately chose the Stamford-based promotion. Vaquer has been a part of a few controversies, including one outside the ring that was a major story in Mexico throughout 2023.

Wrestling veteran Konnan recently spoke about the new WWE signing, bringing up her past in CMLL. He also mentioned an incident between Stephanie Vaquer and an ex-boyfriend of hers, that saw the latter get arrested for attempted femicide and domestic violence. The name in question is AAA wrestler El Cuatrero.

Speaking with Eric Bischoff on the 83 Weeks podcast, Konnan brought up the dark incident while discussing Vaquer’s career:

“This probably happened last year, but (Stephanie Vaquer and El Cuatrero) got into a fight. He was messing around. He grabbed her by the throat and she had marks on her throat, and it was a real big deal. He actually went to jail and he’s still in jail,” said Konnan.

He added:

“(Arena México) put money so he couldn’t get out of jail. And he even had his people, who believed in his version of the story, doing matches that he was innocent.” [From 15:57 to 16:49]

While that was a dark time in Vaquer’s career and life, it’s all in the past. She can now focus on becoming a major star in WWE.

Less than two weeks ago, Stephanie Vaquer wrestled at AEW’s latest pay-per-view event, Forbidden Door. She faced Mercedes Moné in a title-for-title match, with both the TBS and NJPW Strong Women’s Championships on the line. After she dropped the Strong Title, her WWE signing was announced.

Tony Khan’s promotion is not happy with this development. Meanwhile, it remains to be seen how well Vaquer will do in the Stamford-based company.
