Edmonton Criticism – After Suspension: “Disappointed”
Connor McDavid has been suspended for three games for a cross-check. Now Edmonton is coming out to defend its superstar.
“We share the frustration of our fans,” the club wrote in a statement.
Edmonton has lost its captain and superstar Connor McDavid. The 27-year-old was suspended for three games after a high-profile situation with Vancouver’s Connor Garland.
McDavid was held down for a long time and when he finally got free, he delivered a cross-check in response. It hit the face and a larger brawl broke out where Canucks Tyler Myers also delivered a tough cross-check. Both players were also given a match penalty and then also received a three-game suspension.
Edmonton Oilers defend Connor McDavid
Now the Edmonton Oilers choose to come out to defend their captain.
“The Oilers organization is disappointed and we share our fans’ frustration with the three-game suspension of our captain Connor McDavid. We support him through this process and the organization and fans look forward to having him back on the team for next week’s game against Seattle,” the club wrote in a statement.
McDavid is considered the best player in the world and was awarded the Conn Smythe trophy last year, which goes to the MVP of the playoffs when Edmonton lost the Stanley Cup Final. An award that is basically always given to someone on the winning team. This year, he has scored 65 points in 43 games.
To even the playing field before their unreasonable duel, Janne Andersson gets a lesson in hockey rules from Sam Hallam. Clear as a whistle? Well, Mr. Andersson can’t really accept that offside rule, much to Hallam’s chagrin.
