Djokovic Calls For Changes To The Atp After The Cincinnati Scandal – “Do Not Let This Nonsense Happen Again”

In a highly contentious moment during the Cincinnati Masters 1000, Novak Djokovic has called for significant changes within the ATP following a controversial incident that occurred in the match between Jack Draper and Felix Auger-Aliassime. The match, which took place in the early hours of Saturday morning, saw Draper win a crucial point under highly questionable circumstances.

During the match, Draper attempted a volley that unintentionally hit his racket, bounced in his own court, and then went into Auger-Aliassime’s side. Despite what should have been a clear point for Auger-Aliassime, referee Greg Allensworth awarded the point, set, and match to Draper, sparking outrage across the tennis community.

While many players, including Nick Kyrgios, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Denis Shapovalov, voiced their concerns on social media, it was Novak Djokovic’s statement that carried the most weight. The Serbian tennis star took to social media to express his frustration with the situation, specifically criticizing the lack of video replay and the inability of chair umpires to overturn incorrect decisions.

“It’s shameful that we don’t have a video replay for situations like this. What’s even more ridiculous is that there is no rule allowing the chair umpire to correct the initial decision based on video review,” Djokovic stated. He emphasized the need for modern technology in the sport, pointing out that everyone watching on television knew the correct outcome, yet the players were left in the dark.

Djokovic concluded his message with a direct appeal to ATP circuit leaders, urging them to ensure that such incidents do not happen again. “We have hawk-eye for line calls, we live in the technologically advanced 21st century. Please, ATP circuit leaders, make sure that this nonsense does not happen again,” he declared, pushing for necessary reforms to uphold the integrity of the sport.
