Red Bull F1 faces £119m loss ahead of 2025 season
Red Bull Racing, the world champion with Max Verstappen in 2024, is facing major challenges heading into the 2025 season. Despite its resounding success on the track, the Milton Keynes-based team has endured a tumultuous year both on and off the F1 stage.
An internal investigation into team principal Christian Horner’s conduct in early 2024 sparked controversy within the team. However, Horner was eventually cleared and continued to lead the team. Despite this, Red Bull saw two key figures depart, including “design legend” Adrian Newey and sporting director Jonathan Wheatley. Newey joined Aston Martin, while Wheatley joined Sauber, leaving a huge void in Red Bull’s technical and tactical teams.
Not only facing personnel changes, Red Bull also suffered a significant financial loss when it lost major sponsor Bybit. This cryptocurrency trading company signed a three-year sponsorship deal worth £119 million with Red Bull from 2022. However, due to instability in the cryptocurrency market, Bybit decided not to renew the contract, leaving a large financial gap for the racing team.
In this context, team principal Horner quickly sought a new partner to replace him. As a result, Red Bull reached a multi-year partnership with AvaTrade, an online trading platform. AvaTrade officially debuted with the team at the final race of the 2024 season in Abu Dhabi and will continue to appear on the RB20 in the 2025 season.
Commenting on the deal, Horner said: “Everyone at Oracle Red Bull Racing is excited to welcome AvaTrade into the Red Bull family. This partnership reflects our shared values of maximizing potential and achieving success, while pushing our limits.”
Horner also stressed that the partnership extends beyond the F1 circuit to other areas such as the F1 Academy and the Talking Bull programme. This demonstrates the deep commitment and close relationship between Red Bull and its new partner, which will open up exciting opportunities in the future.
Despite the challenges, Red Bull Racing still aims to achieve new successes in the 2025 season and continue to affirm its position in the F1 world. With the support of AvaTrade and the relentless efforts of the team, they hope to overcome all challenges to maintain the throne on the track
