Anthony Joshua is poised to face the winner of Tyson Fury’s rematch with Oleksandr Usyk. The two heavyweights will square off once again in Saudi Arabia later this year, with the Gypsy King aiming to gain revenge on the man who unified the division with a thrilling win. The Matchroom supremo has confirmed that, even if Fury gains revenge to leave the score between him and Usyk at 1-1, there is unlikely to be a trilogy fight between the pair.

Eddie Hearn told The Sun: “I expect the winner of the December fight to fight Anthony Joshua, if he wins in September. There’s no decision yet made on the opponent, there’s three or four in the mix. But yeah, that’s the absolute plan. The first priority is to regain the world heavyweight title and obviously undisputed’s always been the dream. So I think we’re two fights away from becoming undisputed. But, we’ve got to win them.”

Joshua has never fought Fury and has twice been beaten by Usyk, which set him up for his historic unification attempt in Saudi Arabia. The Watford-born fighter was last in the ring back in March, seeing off Francis Ngannou. He’s won his last four bouts since back-to-back losses to the Ukrainian and Joshua accepts that he has to overcome several obstacles to get back to the top.

Daniel Dubois, meanwhile, is coming out all guns blazing as he eyes the sport’s biggest prize. He has lost twice in his career, with one of those coming against Usyk, but he’s confident he can see off AJ. Dubois said: “That’s what I’ve been hearing [that Joshua could be next], so let’s see. [Being world champion] is a dream. From challenging for the world title to getting the chance to win the damn thing outright, that’s what I want. I’ll demolish Joshua. I’ll get even better from here.”

The 34-year-old Joshua said: “I’ve got to pick them off one by one. It’s not going to be easy, but that’s my mentality. So come one, come all…He [Dubois] has been in tougher fights, so he becomes hardened. He has worked his way up the ladder, we’ll see what happens in the near future. Wembley, O2, York Hall – wherever they put me, I’m happy to fight. Any venue, I’ll turn up and do my job.”
